Independent Hand Building
The project was to create a clay piece using at least two of the techniques that we had learned. What I like about this piece is the color and also how the coils get closer together and then spread out again. Through this piece I learned how to make coils, slabs and a pinch pot better and how to make them more smoothed out. This piece also allowed me to improve my techniques in clay. There isn't really any meaning behind this piece.

9/11 Inspired Bust
This project was to create a bust based on a historical event. In this piece, I like the hat with all the details and also the twin towers. I learned how to create a bust and also how to make the facial proportions on a bust through this piece. The meaning behind this piece is 9/11. The bust is of a New York City firefighter, which is represented by the details on his hat. The twin towers also represent 9/11 because they were a big factor of that terrible day.

Bird House Visual Pun
The project was to create a visual pun out of newspaper, cardboard and plaster cloth. I really like how well the shape of the bird turned out and also the paint job. I learned how to use plaster cloth to cover a basic outline of a shape and I also learned how to use paint to paint the plaster cloth. The meaning behind this piece is that it is a house shaped like a bird, so the visual pun is obviously bird house.

Inventive Clay Box
The project was to create a clay box with a design carved into it and then to cut out the lid following along the lines of the design. I like the design in my box because it turned out way better than I was expecting. Through this piece I learned how to score and slip better to make sure the box stayed together. I also learned how to smooth out the clay so that it is flat. There isn't really a meaning behind this, but I did glaze it the two different shades of blue because my design reminded me of fish scales so I wanted to make the box look like the ocean.
