Intro 2d art
Artist Statement
In this class I learned how to draw in perspective, how to shade, the elements of art, the principles of art, color theory, rules of composition and botanical art. I also learned how to use materials like shading pencils, pastels and watercolor. During the perspective unit, I learned how to draw in both 1 and 2 pint persepctive. The elements and principles of art were used throughout all of my projects. Color theory and the rules of composition also helped me in the projects.
My favorite project from an artistic viewpoint was the perspective project. This is because I learned the most during this project. I learned how to draw objects in 1 and 2 point perspectives. For example, I learned how to draw stairs in 2 point perspective. Also during this project I learned how to shade objects based on where the light was hitting them.
The technique that I was most successful at in this class was shading. Shading is when you add different values to objects to not only make them look more realistic but also to make it look like it has shadows. You add value depending on the way the light is hitting the object. Shading is done with special pencils that have either lighter or darker graphite. After you shade, you blend it all together with a paper towel to make the colors fade into each other better.
The medium I would choose to learn more about is pencil drawing. I would choose this because I think this is what I'm the best at right now. If I took a class on just this, I would get even better at it. I like pencil drawing the best because I think it is the easiest way to draw realistically. With pencil you can add a lot of detail and you can also shade easily with pencils. What I would like to learn more about pencil drawing is how to best use them, like when you should use a certain pencil depending on what you're trying to shade or add detail to.

Perspective Project
This project was to draw 5 objects in 1 point, draw 5 objects in 2 point and to draw a set of stairs. In my art, I drew 2 sets of stairs that crossed each other, and several cubes in 1 and 2 point persepctive that all have holes going through them. I made this artwork using a ruler and a pencil. I had to pick a point where all my lines would go, and draw all the lines to that one point. From this project I learned how to shade a lot better because there were lots of little parts that had to be shaded differently depending on how the light hit them. I didn't really have any inspiration for this artwork, I just didn't want it to have a theme so I just drew a bunch of cubes. There is no meaning behind this artwork.

Botanical Mixed Media Project
The goal of this project was to draw an object such as a bug, flower or pumpkin with as much detail as possible. You picked the best composition out of the whole drawing and drew a square around that. Then you drew that compostion on a separate piece of paper. After you drew it, you copy it on to 3 other paper so that you have 4 of the exact same picture, but 2 of them are flipped the other way. For one flower, I shaded it using pencils and then blended it out. Another one used oil pastels that was colored using complementary colors. The third one was a collage with a monochromatic color. The last picture was watercolor that used analogous colors. I made this project by first drawing what I wanted very in depth, then picked the best part of that drawing and drew that 4 times then colored them using 4 different techniques. Through this piece I learned a lot of new things. I learned how to use watercolors and that by adding more water, you can make a color lighter. I also learned how to do a collage. I learned that it is a very hard and long proccess, escpecially when you have to find many different shades of one color. My inspiration for this artwork was the flower that I drew and trying to make it look like that as much as I could. There is no meaning behind this artwork.

Portrait Project
This last project was to draw yourself and shade it realistically so that it looked like you as much as possible. In this piece, I used much lighter shading so the whole picture overall isn't that dark. To make this artwork, I first had a picture taken of me. Then I drew a grid straight on the picture and on the piece of paper I was going to use. Then box by box, I went through and drew what was in each box until I eneded up with the whole picture. After that, I shaded my drawing like how it was in the picture. I used a ruler to create the grid. In this piece I learned that it is much easier to draw detailed pictures when you only focus on one little part at a time and draw all the details you see. I also learned that it i easier to shade the whole picture darker so it is easier to make the lighter values. The inspiration for this artwork was the picture that I took for the project. There is no meaning behind this artwork.
