advanced 2d art
Throughout this class, I have learned that there are many other types of 2D art besides just drawing. This includes batik, printmaking and using text in an artwork. I really liked printmaking and using watercolor and all the techniques associated with it. I especially liked using watercolor pencils in my art. When people look at my art, I want them to be able to know what I drew. I also would like my artwork to look realistic so it's easy to know what I made. Printmaking is the most interesting to me. I think that it would be fun to do more printmaking and different types of it. Printmaking is also something I would like to learn more about in the future. I want to learn how to do it better and all the different techniques.
Charcoal Still Life
This is a charcoal still life of objects that represent me. I included a cheer bow, a guitar pick and my lanyard. I used a cheer bow because I am a cheerleader, a guitar pick because I play classical guitar and my lanyard because my car keys are on it. This artwork was made using charcoal. I used different types of charcoal to shade my objects correctly. My project doesn't really have a meaning behind it besides the fact that it represents me. My goal in this piece was to accurately and realistically draw things important to me and shade them. I think overall this piece turned out pretty well. I like the shading in the bow and how it makes it look crinkled. I also like how realistic the keys look. Something I could improve on is all the empty space in the background.

Batik
This project was to create a batik of a landscape. I decided to draw a sunset that I took a picture of. The bottom half of the batik is the dark outline of houses and other objects on the ground and the rest is the sunset. To make this piece, I used silk, resist and watercolor. I had to draw out my landscape on paper with sharpie and then to get the drawing on my silk I traced it with resist. There is no meaning behind this artwork. My goals in this piece were to get the right colors in the sunset and make it fade like how it did in the picture. I tried my best to do that, but I couldn't get the exact colors of the sunset. Also, the watercolor dried before I could blend it so there are spots where that can be seen. Overall I don't think this turned out too well because it doesn't look like the picture, but I still like how it looks.

Monochromatic Portrait
This project was to get a picture of either yourself or someone else and to draw them. Instead of shading the person normally, you had to shade them using words. To make this piece I drew myself and then added value to it by writing lyrics to "Our Song" by Taylor Swift in sharpie. I chose to use the lyrics from that song because it is one of my favorites. Through this piece I wanted to make the overall art look as close to me as possible. I found out as I began to fill in space with words that it's really hard to create value using only words. I don't think I did a very good job of making this piece look realistic. I definitely could've done better on creating more values with the words since a lot of the drawing is the same shade. I also think that I could've shaded the eyes a little better because they don't look like the picture. Something I think I did good was the actual drawing itself. It looked very close to the picture before I started to shade it. Overall, I don't think this was of my best piece considering how much time I spent on it.

Printmaking
My last piece this year was a printmaking project. I made three different prints using a method called monochromatic printing. In this piece, I also added color by using watercolor pencils. I drew this on to a piece of paper and then transferred it on to the plate by tracing over my original drawing. Everything comes out backwards on the print so that is why all the writing and numbers are backwards. I didn't really have any meaning behind this, I just wanted to pick a picture I liked. For this piece, I didn't have any goals in mind because I had never done printmaking before and I didn't know what to expect. Overall, I actually really like this piece. I think I did a pretty good job for my first time doing printmaking, even though I made a few mistakes. I really liked using the watercolor pencils and I think the color turned out good on this piece. Something I could improve would be to be more careful when tracing the drawing so that there aren't extra marks on the final piece.
